Today I’ve got a combination review and article for you, more of a roundup, or comparison piece really. On a personal note I’ve moved now to all SATA connections, so no more IDE for me in my main system. IDE is becoming obsolete, with SATA becoming the new standard, first it was hard drives now more and more companies are coming out with optical SATA drives as well. Now here's an interesting thing that may shed some light on what's going on, for those in the know.Everyone has optical drives and as time has passed they’ve gotten faster and faster, one problem I’ve encountered though is that for newer drives there is no media for the latest speeds, something I’ve never been able to quite figure out. As you say, the thing should not have happened in the first place. This solves the problem but at a small cost. I have solved the problem by buying a small external USB DVD drive which apparently don't rely on internal drivers. Depending on the motherboard, some will lose their drive and others won't. I feel that the fault lies between Windows 10 and the type of motherboard installed. I have made a windows 10 start up pen drive from my lap top and am going to experiment again with my main computer to see what if any problems persist. I would advise anyone else who has this problem to check that both the power cable and the data cable is fully connected at both ends before troubleshooting. On checking the connections I found the data sata cable, not the power cable was not snapped fully into position even though it had worked before. I went back to Windows 7 and found the drive was still not there. However, there may be, having discussed with others, a simpler reason why the problem occurs. Come on Microsoft solutions are needed or I will have to revert to Windows 7 to get my DVD/CD writer/reader to work. The drive still does not exist at all It is a deceased, dead, expired, non-existent piece of hardware. I have tried this and there is no little balloon telling me that the new software is being loaded. ![]() Then, on re connecting the drive, windows will see it as new hardware and download the drivers. In another thread it was suggested that one should disconnect the drive and restart the computer. Download the latest Writemaster device drivers (Official and Certified). It is just as if it has become a piece of plastic or does not exist at all. It does not appear anywhere in control panel or devices and printers. You cannot uninstall it (drivers) susing device manager because it does not appear there. I have the same problem since installing windows 10.
